Bachelor of Science in Criminology

Program Description

It is a four-year degree program composed of six major fields of study, namely: Criminal Jurisprudence, Law Enforcement Administration, Forensic Sciences and Crime Detection and Investigation, Criminal Sociology, and Correctional Administration. It also includes courses in Defense Tactics, Marksmanship and First Aid and Water Survival. These courses will provide graduates the necessary knowledge, skills, and values needed in the practrice of Criminology profession.

NATURE OF STUDY OF CRIMINOLOGY:
The field of criminology is the study of crime and various agencies of justice as they operate and react to crime, criminals and victims.

The mission of the Criminology program is to provide the community with professionally competent and morally upright graduate who can deliver efficient and effective services in crime prevention, crime detection and investigation, law enforcement, public safety, custody and rehabilitation of offenders, criminological research, among others.

Specific to the graduates of the BS Criminology Program

Graduates of the BS Criminology program equipped with relevant knowledge, skills, attitude and values shall be able to:
a. Conduct criminological research on crimes, crime causation, victims, and offenders to include deviant behavior;
b. Internalize the concepts of human rights and victim welfare;
c. Demonstrate competence and broad understanding in law enforcement administration, public safety and criminal justice;
d. Utilize criminalistics or forensic science in the investigation and detection of crime;
e. Apply the principle and jurisprudence of criminal law, evidence and criminal procedure;
f. Ensure offender’s welfare and development for their re-integration to the community.
 

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Exemplify professional and ethical standards in the practice of profession;

2. Exhibit appreciation to Filipino historical and cultural heritage, laws, and social control policies;

3. Engage in continuing education in view of the development and trends in Criminal Justice Education;

4. Organize and collaborate with multi-disciplinary/multi-cultural teams community service programs to address crime problems in the community;

5. Apply constitutional guarantees, processes and multi-cultural sensitivity in simulated public safety operations (police, fire and jail services);

6. Prepare public safety operational plans and management tools in addressing current issues on crime, justice and peace and order;

7. Apply knowledge and skills in forensic investigation in the collection, preservation and presentation of evidence for legal purposes;

8. Prepare and present technical reports using standard protocols following effective and culturally appropriate language; and

9. Produce research outputs in the field of Criminal Justice Education.

  • Law Enforcer (PNP, NBI, PDEA, Bureau of Customs, Philippine Coast Guard, etc.)
  • Public Safety Officer (BFP, BJMP, BuCor, Airport Police, etc.)
  • Forensic Specialists (Fingerprint Examiner, Firearms Examiner, Forensic Photographer, Questioned Document Examiner, Polygraph Examiner, etc.)
  • Professor, Instructior, or teacher in the various unniversities and colleges offerinng criminology program
  • Soldier in the various branches of the AFP
  • Security Practioner (Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Sea Marshall, Office of Transportation Security, Philippine Ports Authority, etc)

Other Key Features that need to be highlighted

  • AUF-CCJE strongly adhere to the guidelines provided under CMO No. 05 s. 2018, this PSG implements the "shift to competency-based standards/outcome-based education." It specifies the "program outcomes/core competencies" expected of B.S. Criminology Graduates “regardless of the type of higher education institution (HEI) they graduated from.”
  • The college have produced OUTSTANDING ALUMNI who are productively working at the vartious law enforcement agencies and other pillars of the criminal justiice system and who consistently uphold the AUF Core Values that of "MABUTI, MAGALING at may MALASAKIT"
  • Studens likewise excell in various regional and national competitions that focuses on academics, research, community projects and many more. The licensure examination performance for the past 2 decades have been exemplary and has produced pool of topnotchers.
  • Faculty members are Lifetime members of the Asian Criminological Society and the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines. They hold key positions such as regional directors, governors, and chairperson of significant committees.
  • The college is now housed at a newly constructed building with its new state-of-the-art forensic laboratory situated at the 6th floor
