Angeles University Foundation has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Graded English Medium School (GEMS) based in Kathmandu, Nepal to offer a world class BS Biology – Doctor of Medicine (BS/MD) program for Nepalese Students.

Under the agreement, the BS Biology program shall be conducted initially at GEMS in Nepal and completed at AUF, while the Doctor of Medicine degree will be completed entirely at AUF. The primary objective of the BS/MD program is to develop competent, compassionate and committed physicians for Nepal.

The GEMS Institute of Higher Education, which will house the joint BS/MD program, was inaugurated on June 25, 2008 by AUF immediate past chancellor, Dr. Emmanuel Y. Angeles and AUF president, Dr. Ricardo P. Pama.

Need and Scope of Medical Science in Nepal

For a country like Nepal with a population of nearly 25 million, it is essential that health issues be given priority, and standard medical facilities be provided to the people. Many people do not have access to modern medical facilities thereby resulting to untimely deaths and debilitating illnesses.

In response to the growing demand for healthcare professionals, thousands of Nepalese students have enrolled in medical schools in countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and more recently, China. Pursuing the medical profession will ultimately benefit not only the Nepalese people, but the practitioners themselves who look forward to engage in the promising career.

Confident that the Philippines, particularly Angeles University Foundation (AUF), can provide quality medical education to Nepalese students, GEMS has entered into collaboration with the University to establish an academic extension to offer the BS/MD program.

Program Objectives

• To educate, train and develop students and become physicians in Nepal
• To obtain quality medical education through an environment conducive to learning
• To foster cooperation in education and develop cordial foreign relations between Nepal and the Philippines

A. BS Biology : 1.5 Years (Three semesters)

• Two semesters at GEMS and one semester at AUF
• One summer term in the Philippines
