Angeles University Foundation Medical Center (AUFMC) successfully performed kidney transplants on two patients from Central Luzon who both received kidneys from a deceased donor last December, it was announced by AUFMC President and CEO Atty. Gabriel Martin L. Angeles.

Angeles, who is also Program Director of the Central Luzon Organ Sharing Effort (C.L.O.S.E), said that the procedures were actually the first cases done outside Metro Manila.

“This is the first time that AUFMC performed kidney transplants from deceased donors , and these two were all performed one after the other in one evening”, said Angeles. “To make the event even more memorable since it coincided with the Christmas season and to honor the magnanimity of the donor family, the recipients named their kidneys Kristo and Christopher.”

The retrieval team for the delicate procedure was led by of AUFMC transplant chief Dr. Rose Marie O. Rosete-Liquete who was assisted by Dr. Adolfo Parayno , Dr. Junico Visaya, Dr. Filferman Malto, Dr. Dennis Baltazar, nurses Pedro Mejia IV, Racquel P. Anaban, Albert G. Capitle, Reinner Walsayan and Gigi Manansala . The transplantations were performed by the same retrieval team with Dr.Alfonso Danac, Dr. Rommel Serrano, anesthesiologists Dr. Grace Enriquez, Dr. Arnold Uy, Dr. Alejandro Garcia Jr and Dr. Reyno Gran , and AUFMC nurses Ramil De Guzman , Annette Pamplona, Mylene dela Cruz and Handrian Lor. C.L.O.S.E. is the deceased donor program of the AUFMC, an accredited kidney transplant center in Angeles City. The program aims to assist the Department of Health in its advocacy to promote organ donation from brain dead donors. Next to the National Capital Region, Region 3 has the most number of patients on dialysis. This implies that region 3 has the highest number of potential kidney transplant recipients. AUFMC is the only hospital in the region with an active transplant program and serves as the hub of referral for organ donation and transplantation in Regions 1, 2, 3 and the CAR .

Kidney patients on dialysis in need of transplant may register at C.L.O.SE . Please contact Mycah Camille Reyes at 0922-8433539 or Ramil De Guzman 0922-8739108.
